Rains failed to dampen the excitement as 270 public relations professionals converge at the world-famous tourism destination Boracay island for the first congress of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) outside Metro Manila last September 27-28, 2013.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio B. Coloma Jr., the chief communications man of the Office of the President, himself led the cream of the Philippine public relations world as he urged them to promote the bayanihan spirit.

Secretary Coloma delivered the keynote speech at the first day of the 2013 National PR Congress in Boracay with the theme “From Ripples to Waves: PR as Agent of Sustainable Change.”

Sandy Prieto-Romualdez of the Philippine Daily Inquirer meanwhile stresses vision. That is where change starts, she said.

But the conference in Boracay was not all about discussions about change and CSR. After all, Boracay is about the beach and the all night parties.

The opportunity to enjoy Boracay attracted not only PR professionals based in Metro Manila. Practitioners based in Cebu City and Davao City flocked to the Paradise Garden Resort came to participate, said Doris Mongaya of PRworks Inc. The Cebu-based agency, which has established itself in the Visayas and Mindanao, was also event organizer of the international gathering of tech entrepreneurs in the successful ‘Geeks on a Beach’ that transpired a day earlier also in Boracay.
