Helping Sendong survivors this Christmas

Helping Sendong survivors this Christmas

Celebrating Christmas means sharing our love, the blessings we received this year, and our prayers not just for our loved ones and friends. Celebrating Christmas is giving to those who need our love, the blessings we received this year, and our prayers most.

This Christmas season, those who need these most are not only our poor neighbors. They include the thousands affected and who survived the wrath of typhoon Sendong (Washi) in southern Philippines.

It is heartwarming to know that Filipinos have responded overwhelmingly to calls for help and prayers. The tragedy that killed over a thousand and rendered homeless thousands more has brought out the best in us as a people.

Here in Cebu, reporters belonging to the Cebu Federation of Beat Reporters (CFBJ) used Christmas parties to raise funds for Sendong victims. CFBJ President Elias Baquero said two Cebu reporters — who will cover Gov. Gwen Garcia’s trip to Cagayan de Oro next week — plan to personally turnover the funds to their media counterparts.

PRworks Inc., in our little way to help, is now gathering aid from friends and clients to address the particular needs of journalists and bloggers affected by typhoon Sendong. (Please read related story)
