Another illegal seller of a Globe WiMAX connection was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Globe Security team and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police inDanaoCity,Cebu.
The suspect was identified as Ronald Derecho, a cellphone shop owner. Confiscated from Derecho were seven (7) units of Globe WiMAX modems inside his shop located across Danao Terminal near Gaisano Mall. The investigation revealed that Derecho sold the broadband modems for P6,500 a piece, which provided users with lifetime internet connection.
According to a Globe Security report, one of the most popular cases of illegal WiMAX transactions is the one-time payment of subscribers for an unlimited broadband service. The payment ranges from P1,000 to as much as P30,000.
To date, over 30 WiMAX modems have been recovered since entrapment operations began in January this year. The most rampant cases of illegal WiMAX selling and distribution were identified in Pasay, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Antipolo, Bulacan, Caloocan, Sta. Mesa, Bulacan, Laguna, Pampanga, Bohol and Davao.
