Women entrepreneurs in Cebu are invited to the Cebuanas on the Web Summit 2013, the first ever women and tech event here in Cebu, slated on August 22, 2013.
Fleire Castro of the Google Business Group (GBG) and Third Team Media, issued this invitation during a press launch earlier today at Coffee Dream in Paseo Arcenas, Banawa, Cebu City.
With Castro during the launch were Rica Sereno of Offshore Consulting, MJ Yuvallos of Istorya.net, and Hannah Amora of HoneyComb Consulting.
Also present was Doris Mongaya of PRworks Inc., which is also supporting Cebuanas on the Web.
According to Castro, some 69 percent of new businesses registered in the Philippines are owned by women.
In the past century women have steadily emerged as equals in various fields from being looked down upon by a predominantly patriarchal
society.
But more has to be done: a February 2013 APEC study said that women entrepreneurs still lag in their knowledge and use of new technologies for business in contrast to men.
The Cebuanas on the Web Summit 2013 seeks to address this question in a one-day Summit on August 22, 2013 at the Oakridge Pavillon in Mandaue City, Cebu.
Over a hundred Cebu-based women from different sectors are expected to participate in the Summit and learn how to use the Internet,
especially Google tools, for success in business.
The Cebuanas on the Web Summit 2013 is spearheaded by the Cebu Google Business Group (GBG ) community.
The Summit’s partners include Third Team Media, Oakridge Business Park, Cebu Chamber of Commerce, Philippine Retailers Association Cebu Chapter, Bosconian International Chamber of Commerce, Inc., JCI WoMandaue, TechTalks.ph, Cebu Blog Camp, GDG Cebu, Bjorn Cebuano, PRWorks Inc., Honeycomb Finance Consultancy, Potato Webs Production, Offshore Consultancy and Business Services, D’ Barrs Catering Services, Dalmietron, Chedz Cakes of Cebu, The Center Suites, Coffee Dream, Lakwatsa Restolounge, iStorya.net, Pinoy Great Deals, and Focal Glass.com.
Women are said to hold half the sky. With this Summit, women may now be on the way to holding half of the World Wide Web, said Mongaya.
Sereno said they hope to encourage women entrepreneurs to embrace technology by presenting this in simple ‘girl talk’ during the conference.
“We will discuss empowerment, techno-preneurship, and web tools for women as well as engage in networking with other women in business here in Cebu,” Sereno said.
Although there is yet not research into the impact of technology on online business in Cebu, individual experiences showed positive results, said Amora.
Yuvallos, in particular, cited that several years ago a Jollibee campaign in Istorya.net led to a five percent increase in the number of clients.
Those interested in joining can checkout https://sites.google.com/site/cebuanasonthewebsummit/ and register online.
“Register early because seats are limited. We won’t admit walk ins. First come, first served,” said Castro and Amora.
A video promotional material posted in Youtube was presented during the launch.
