Seafarers to tackle HIV/AIDS

THE Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are among the major problems plaguing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) including seamen today.

A recent report by the Department of Health said 178 cases have been recorded for the month of June this year – a 63 percent increase considered to be the highest for 2011.

SEAFARING individuals and their families based in the Visayas and Mindanao are enjoined to take part in the 1st International Seafarers Family Convention (ISFC) and Exhibition on August 4 and 5 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

“To help them strengthen their ties with their families and deal with the problems related to their maritime careers, we are inviting our seafaring brothers and sisters in the Visayas and Mindanao to participate in this first-ever international conference along with their families and relatives,” said Marissa F.

1st International Seafarer Family Convention

PRworks Inc. has committed to help publicize the 1st International Seafarer Family Convention set on August 4 and 5, 2011 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
The convention aims to bring together the families of Pinoy seafarers and herald the contributions of the maritime industry to the Philippine economy.
With the theme "The bonds of families; the success of the world," convention organizers recognize the many problems faced by seafarers and their families.
But the seafarers and their families are not the only stakeholders in our concern to keeping their families intact.
