Globe is riding on the momentum of its network upgrades and new site builds last year. It now eyes several cities in Visayas and Mindanao for an upgrade to 4G LTE technologies. These VisMin urban centers are:
- Bacolod City
- Cebu City
- Mandaue City
- Lapu-Lapu City
- Davao City
- Cagayan de Oro
Globe will replace its old 3G equipment with 5G-ready 4G LTE infrastructure. Thus, the upgrades will mean better connectivity to customers.

Joel Agustin, Globe SVP for Program Development, had this to say. The telecom got boosted by the positive feedback received from customers. As a result, they noted significant improvements in their call, SMS, and data services.
“We are upgrading more areas with the newest available technology. With this said, we want our customers to make the most of the opportunities now available to them,” he said.
Globe has upgraded its network into 5G-ready 4G LTE in 199 cities and towns in the country. These include Metro Manila, Rizal, Quezon, Leyte, Agusan del Sur, and Pampanga. Therefore, expect the company to fast-track its shift to 4G LTE this year. This development makes it the new standard of mobile internet in the Philippines. It is in line with global best practice as 3G technology is now considered obsolete.
Globe users urged to upgrade
Globe has been encouraging its customers nationwide to change their SIMs to a 5G-ready 4G/LTE SIM. Meanwhile, the telecom urged customers to upgrade their devices to a 4G LTE device.
SIM change is free at any Globe Stores. Take note, customers will keep their old numbers. For security reasons, Globe advised upgrading their SIM at the Globe Store only.

Globe upgrade strategy
Globe has laid out a 3-pronged strategy for its network upgrades and expansion. These include:
- Aggressive cell site builds.
- Upgrading its cell sites to 4G/LTE using many different frequencies.
- Fast-tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.
