The 2GO Group has brought members of the Philippine Volcanoes, the country’s rugby team, along with PBB Housemate and Miss Earth Runner-Up Princess Manzon and Mister Philippines-Universe Willan Pagayon to Cebu and join the Sinulog revelry and pay homage to Cebu’s patron Señor Sto. Niño on board the 2GO float last January 19, 2013.
An estimated 3.5 million revelers the Grand Sinulog Parade 2014, blessed with cool, cloudy weather the whole day, went out into the streets and join the celebration that Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma saw as a sign of faith despite the calamities that hit the Visayas in 2013.
The good Cebu archbishop reminded the faithful of last year’s calamities mainly the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and super typhoon Yolanda during the pontifical mass at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño in the morning of January 19, 2014. The 2GO Group has been part of the cooperative effort to provide relief goods to the quake and typhoon survivors.
A month before the earthquake, St. Thomas Aquinas, a 2GO vessel, was rammed by a Sulpicio cargo ship and sank off the Port of Cebu causing the death of over a hundred passengers. Officials of 2GO helped the families of the victims and survivors as well as communities affected by the resulting oil spill.
According to 2GO officials, participation in the Sinulog celebration was an expression of thanks to Señor Sto. Niño and the Cebuanos.
Cyryl dela Serna of the 2GO Cebu office donned an appropriate Sinulog costume and carried an image of the Senyor together with the 2GO officials, employees, and visitors on the 2GO float.
