GMEA 2020 cash prizes
Life in New Normal
Unlike years past, the GMEA 2020 finals exemplified life this year’s theme of “Life in the New Normal.”
- Winners in the Visayas and Mindanao announced one finals ceremony.
- The GMEA 2020 awarding ceremony went fully digital and online.
GMEA 2020 Visayas had been reset to November
This year’s GMEA recognized the exceptional and agile work of journalists, bloggers, and social media influencers in Visayas and Mindanao. The challenge involves covering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic amid the risks and disruptions.
The theme “Life in the New Normal” includes the COVID-19 response, the impact of quarantine on different sectors, and the difficult road to economic recovery. In addition, entries should also be in line with Globe’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Care for the environment.
- Positive societal impact.
- Care for people.
- Digital nation.

DICT director urges digital transformation
New categories and expanded coverage
“GMEA 2020 comes at an unusual time. The world faces a shared health and economic crisis that presents new ways of living. Media plays an important role in the COVID-19 response even as it poses challenges to the industry. For example, a quick pivot to more digital content. As an ICT enabler, Globe wants to champion stories that show us different life perspectives during the pandemic,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications.
In line with the changing tides, GMEA added new categories:
- COVID-19 Story of the Year (recognizing the best story that covers the pandemic which demonstrates an excellent, resourceful, and factual narrative of the issue)
- Community Development Story of the Year (recognizing the best story that promotes community development which focuses on the digitalization of communities or sustainability programs).
Globe Telecom expanded GMEA 2020 to cover Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Bohol, Tacloban, and Ormoc in the Visayas. In addition, the coverage includes Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Zamboanga in Mindanao.
The same standards of excellence were applied for all contenders for an award. It does not matter whether the writer wrote works in English, Bisaya, Hiligaynon, or Chavacano.
GMEA 2020 finals e-vite
GMEA 2020 received over 400 entries from Visayas and Mindanao. Globe announced the winners through a live-streamed event on November 26, 2020, via www.Facebook.com/GlobeICON.
